Spring is FINALLY coming to our Montana homestead!

Spring is FINALLY coming to our Montana homestead!

“Welcome to Second Helpings Homestead Blog!  Your plate won't be empty with extra servings of farm hacks, recipes, garden know-how, critter tales, and life stories—so let’s dig in!”

Spring doesn't usually arrive like a roaring lion around these parts!  Most years it's a slow warm up as we watch winter battle it out with spring, most days like fighting siblings. We can head out in the morning with warm coats, hats and boots if there is an over night snow.  By mid-morning the temps rise a bit and the clothes shedding process begins!  By mid-afternoon spring wakes up, almost like a teenager rolling out of bed for the day and melts winter's over night shenanigans. Some days summer tries to throw it's curve ball and it's two cents into the mix and that's when we're happy we didn't go anywhere to travel! It gets pretty crazy here when the warmer days set in and clouds part for some welcomed sunshine!  People starve for the vitamin D throughout the winter, but emerge like watered plants straining for the sunshine at last! This is when the garden gloves "come on" and our dreaming starts to become our reality. The beauty of the homestead is a constant reminder of God's gift to us and the less than perfect days remind us to rest in His care for tomorrow!  Nothing is promised on the homestead and some days are a bust!  But just as in life, it should never stop us from dreaming, hoping, and trusting that all of our dreams and hard work are not in vain as we grow through spring's sometimes turbulent weather and life's imperfections.  Real growth and faith is in the imperfection of life.  How are you doing with embracing spring growth in your life today?
